As many as 5% of high school students regularly avoid school due to anxiety or mood concerns, with some indications that these rates have increased since the start of the COVID pandemic. School avoidance is associated with a number of negative outcomes, including academic decline, loneliness, family conflict, and challenges in transitioning to college and/or work.
