Dr. Chronis-Tuscano's research focuses broadly on understanding early predictors of developmental outcomes for children with Attention- Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and developing novel treatments which target these early risk and protective factors. Much of this research has addressed issues related to maternal parenting and psychopathology. A secondary line of research aims to examine the trajectory of young children displaying early behavioral inhibition, including the development of psychopathology, and to intervene by targeting key moderators of outcome (e.g., parenting and social relationships).Dr. Chronis-Tuscano is the President of ISRCAP; Associate Editor of the Journal of Consulting & Clinical Psychology; Fellow of ABCT; former Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology; and standing member of the NIMH Mental Health Services Research (SERV) review committee. She is the recipient of multiple NIH grants and author of over 100 publications.
Supporting Caregivers of Children with ADHD: An Integrated Parenting Program
Effective parenting is essential to the success of children with ADHD. At the same time, difficult child behavior contributes to parenting stress and often evokes harsh responses from caregivers, leading to increasing problems over time. Supporting Caregivers of Children with ADHD integrates behavioral, cognitive, and emotion-focused intervention components into straightforward treatment for both parents and children. Sessions included in this therapist guide incorporate group discussion, modeling, role play, and home exercises that involve practicing behavioral parenting techniques and/or cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) skills. With the use of this program, clinicians will gain the expertise to guide parents in effectively supporting their children's behavioral and emotional regulation by creating and maintaining a calm and consistent home environment.

Kelly O’Brien, PhD, is a licensed psychologist at Alvord, Baker, & Associates in Maryland. She provides evidence-based interventions that empower caregivers to effectively support their children with mental health needs. These interventions include Supporting Caregivers of Children with ADHD: An Integrated Parenting Program, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and adaptations of PCIT for behavioral inhibition, emotion regulation, and Selective Mutism, Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), and Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). She is a Certified PCIT Level II Trainer and also a part of the Training Institute for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Children and Adolescents at Alvord, Baker & Associates. Dr. O’Brien received her doctoral degree from the University of Florida Clinical & Health Psychology program and completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where she was the child-community intern.
