Tammy has been practicing as a registered, licensed dietitian/nutritionist for over three decades. Her experience includes inpatient treatment programs, management of outpatient nutrition programs in both Alabama and Florida, and private practice specializing in eating disorders. She joined Alsana Eating Recovery Communities in 2015 as National Director of Nutrition Education, and now serves as Vice President of Clinical Nutrition Services, working closely with the Clinical Leadership Team to ensure that the nutrition programming blends both evidence-based science and cutting-edge practice. Tammy was the first registered dietitian to become certified with the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) in 1993, and served on the Certification Committee for nine years, stepping into the role of Director from 2013-2017. During her tenure, the Commission on Dietetic Registration approved the CEDRD Certification for RDs in the field of eating disorders. Due to her work in this field, Tammy received the Excellence in Practice in Eating Disorders award from Behavioral Health Nutrition practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in 2016. Tammy enjoys translating evidence-based science into practical and insightful messages for clients to begin healing their relationship with food and body and for clinicians to incorporate into their own practices.

Theresa Carmichael, R.D. earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Foods & Nutrition from San Diego State University. Shortly after graduation she was accepted to a dietetic internship through the University of Nevada Las Vegas with an emphasis in Clinical Nutrition. Ms. Carmichael has been working with adults and adolescents via behavioral health nutrition in all levels of care at Center for Discovery since 2014. She has found a passion working with clients of all ages struggling with a variety of mental health and eating disorders diagnosis. Ms. Carmichael has been featured in multiple mental health blogs, professional speaking events, articles and podcasts on her work with body inclusivity and nutritional treatment modalities. She is responsible for training Center for Discovery's treatment teams across the country in the treatment of disordered eating alongside the rest of the Operations Team. Ms. Carmichael continues to serve patients one to one in her private practice located in San Diego, California while also serving as an Advisory Board Member for the Didactic Program in Dietetics at San Diego State University. Ms. Carmichael is also now Chair Elect of the Behavioral Health Nutrition DPG with the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.

Dr. Hawkins is a clinical psychologist and is the Chief Executive Officer at Center for Change. She is a specialist in eating disorders and body image and has provided clinical expertise at Center for Change since 1999. Dr. Hawkins developed a comprehensive body image program that focuses on the media, diet industry, plastic surgery, childhood issues, and learning to appreciate one’s body, and she leads these groups for the Inpatient and Residential patients at Center for Change. She is a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (Supervisor), has published several articles, and presents regularly at national and regional conferences.

Dr. Melissa Coffin is a licensed psychologist and a certified eating disorder specialist supervisor (CEDS-S) with nearly 15 years experience working in the field of eating disorders. She started with Oliver-Pyatt Centers as a clinical director at the residential level of care in 2008. In the past several years she has been in a senior level leadership and supervisory role with Monte Nido & Affiliates and currently serves as the Senior Director of Clinical Programming. In addition to her work at Monte Nido, she maintains a private practice in Greenwich, CT. She is honored that her daily work is dedicated to supporting individuals find their way to a full and lasting recovery.

Norman is the co-founder and principal of the Institute for Antiracism and Equity in Mental Health and the Deputy Director of Ayana Therapy, an online therapy app focused on providing culturally competent care to marginalized communities. He completed his B.A. at Yale and his Ph.D. in Psychology at UCLA. His research and clinical interests include the social development of people with autism, the developmental course of bipolar disorder, and anxiety disorders. In conjunction Norman has developed an expertise in psychiatrically complex populations, and his primary areas of interest are the application of a transdiagnostic framework for eating disorders, taking an evolutionary approach to shame and anxiety, and minority mental health. He is a regular national and international speaker, educator, and passionate advocate with a particular focus on minority status and barriers to mental health care in marginalized communities. He is the founding co-chair of the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color Committee of IAEDP, on the inaugural Behavioral Health Taskforce for the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, the co-chair of the Transcultural SIG for the Academy of Eating Disorders, and serves on numerous advisory boards. Norman was the co-founder of Reasons Eating Disorder Center.

Christine Wood, M.D. is a practicing pediatrician at Coast Pediatrics in San Diego, California. She is the Medical Consultant for Center for Discovery residential eating disorder treatment center in La Jolla, California since 2013. She has served as Medical Liaison for the San Diego Chapter International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP). She has been certified as a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS), which is a certification status from IAEDP that entails passing a certification test and demonstrating expertise and contributions over a minimum of 5 years in the field of eating disorders. She served as the Co-Chair for the San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative from 2009 through 2015. As part of the Institute for Healthy Childhood Weight Steering Committee, she worked on a national level with the American Academy of Pediatrics to shape how pediatricians confront achieving healthy weight in children. Through the American Academy of Pediatrics, she was co-author of a Clinical Report published in September 2016 in Pediatrics, titled “Preventing Eating Disorders and Obesity in Adolescents.” She is the author of the book, How to Get Kids to Eat Great & Love It! She has been a frequent speaker at conferences, schools and parent talks on the topic of childhood nutrition. Her interviews have been featured in magazines including: Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, Parents, Parenting, American Baby, Redbook, Fit Pregnancy, Family Life, among others. As a frequent guest on radio shows and national and local television, she delivers critical messages to families on the topic of nutrition. She graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and went on to Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles for her pediatric residency.
