We are exposed to the issue of racism through media and daily experience and so are our clients. Many times, our clients need a safe space to navigate all of the input they receive and come to terms with how racism and oppression are impacting their lives. Learning Objectives

  • Describe the role systemic racism can have on the therapy process with clients.
  • Recognize how the current political climate and community unrest impacts the client and how to apply that knowledge to address client needs.
  • Explain the phenomena of resilience and the role it plays in wellness during the therapeutic process.
  • Demonstrate therapeutic techniques to in order to have an open dialogue with clients around these issues.
  • Apply specific techniques to begin to address the psychological harm racial trauma has caused clients.
