Maria Trenda, MSW, LICSW
Maria Trenda, MSW, LICSW
Maria Trenda is a licensed independent social worker (LICSW) in MN. She received her masters degree in social work from the University of St. Thomas and St. Catherine University. She is the lead therapist at the Minneapolis Rogers Behavioral Health clinic, assisting with the supervision and training to fellow and new employees, as well as maintaining a small caseload varying across the differing units. She is the clinical supervisor for the Child/Adolescent Eating Disorder Recovery program at the Minneapolis Rogers Behavioral Health location and supports the staff in the treatment of their clients. While in grad school, Maria also worked at The Emily Program’s Anna Westin Residential House supporting adults diagnosed with eating disorders. Maria is certified through the University of Pennsylvania in Prolonged Exposure Therapy and hopes to one day be able to combine her trauma expertise with treating those diagnosed with eating disorders at a residential level. Outside of work, Maria spends the majority of her free time reading, cuddling with her cats, and watching anything on the BRAVO channel.

Michelle Young is a licensed professional clinical counselor (LPCC) in MN and licensed professional counselor (LPC) in WI. She is an approved clinical supervisor in both WI and MN. She currently supervises the following St Paul clinic location programs: Child/Adolescent OCD/Anxiety Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), Adolescent Depression Recovery PHP and IOP, Adult OCD/Anxiety IOP, and Tele Adult OCD/Anxiety IOP. She offers group supervision to the family therapists from both locations as well. During graduate school, she was trained in CBT-E, an evidenced based treatment for eating disorders. Michelle is a graduate of the International OCD Foundation’s Pediatric Behavioral Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) which is an intensive training program in the assessment and treatment of OCD in children and adolescents using Exposure and Ritual Prevention and involves ongoing consultation with OCD experts in the field. Michelle strives to train staff to show up as compassionate and inclusive treatment providers. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her partner, two children, and friends, as well as yoga and baking.

Emily Rubenstein is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist specializing in eating disorders in both intensive outpatient treatment and private practice settings. Emily began working for Center For Discovery (CFD) as an Associate Therapist in 2020 and now serves as the Clinical Director for the Virtual CA IOP/PHP program**. Prior to working for CFD, Emily spent 6 years working at the residential level with people of all genders and ages in treatment for eating disorders and substance use disorders. Emily also serves on the board for IAEDP’s Orange County (CA) chapter.

Director of Clinical Services, Alsana
As the Director of Clinical Services at Alsana Clara, Carissa believes healing happens in community. Before joining Alsana, Carissa was a residential counselor and primary therapist at several eating disorder treatment centers. Carissa graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and the University of Massachusetts-Boston with a Master of Science in Family Therapy.

Lead Registered Dietician, Alsana
Lisa is the Lead Registered Dietitian for Alsana in Monterey, California. She completed her Masters of Science in Dietetics from New Mexico State University. While Lisa worked as a Dietetic Assistant in the field of eating disorders, she discovered her passion for helping individuals heal their relationships with food and their bodies. In addition to her work at Alsana, Lisa maintains a private practice specializing in eating disorders, disordered eating, and general nutrition.

Director of Clinical Services, Alsana
Kathy serves as the Director of Clinical Services and the Clinical Supervisor at Alsana Libertas Residential.
She has worked as a Clinical Director for a non-profit organization focused on comprehensive Behavioral Health Programs. She also served as a therapist and program administrator for youth in the foster care and the probation systems.
Kathy helped create a school-based mental health program for middle and high schools in California, has served as an Associate Professor at Cal State East Bay, and has maintained a private practice for several years.

Kim Anderson, PhD, CEDS
Kim Anderson, PhD, CEDS
Dr. Anderson is a licensed clinical psychologist who has focused her career on treatment for individuals with eating disorders. She has published scientific articles and chapters on eating disorders, trauma and associated problems. She developed and directed the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Program at the Center for Eating Disorders, which has been adapted to inpatient, outpatient and intensive outpatient settings, before joining Eating Recovery Center in 2019. Dr. Anderson also directs the training of the post-doctoral fellows at Eating Recovery Center, Maryland. She provides individual and group psychotherapy, supervision to developing psychologists, supervision of clinical research, and lectures on the prevention and treatment of eating disorders.

Al Tsai, MD, is a ABPN certified psychiatrist, at the Eating Recovery Center and Pathlight Mood and Anxiety Program in Washington State.   Dr. Tsai has previously worked at Overlake Medical Clinics and Overlake Hospital Medical Center from 2012-2020 where he served as the attending psychiatrist over the Partial Hospitalization Program and also managed patients in the outpatient psychiatry clinic. He also practiced Military Psychiatry with the United States Army Medical Corps with stations at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Washington D.C., Ft. Bragg Army Medical Center in North Carolina, and Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2009-2010. He attended the University of California at Berkeley where he received a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Psychology and Molecular Cell Biology with an emphasis in Neurobiology and a minor Philosophy. He earned his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Tsai completed his internship and residency in 2009 at the Walter Reed National Medical Center in Washington DC and Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Tsai has a wide variety of practice experience and is passionate about the treatment of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, non-suicidal self-injury, personality disorders, and PTSD. He is also excited to participate in the near future in novel treatments for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and substance use, with psychedelic therapies that target the glutamate receptor systems

Maria is the Director of Outpatient Services at Timberline Knolls. She oversees and directs the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Orland Park, IL as well as the clinical staff in those programs. Maria was most recently the Clinical Director of Outpatient Services. She started working at Timberline Knolls in 2014 as a Behavioral Health Associate and has since worked as an Aftercare Specialist and Therapist prior to her roles in outpatient services/PHP at Timberline Knolls. Maria received undergraduate degrees in biology and classical studies and a Master’s in higher education administration from Loyola University in Chicago. She then went on to earn a second Master’s degree in community counseling from National Louis University in the Chicagoland area. Prior to Timberline Knolls, Maria was involved in the world of higher education, working at colleges and universities.
