Radical Rest: Dismantling Productivity and Reclaiming Self Care

Abbey L. Carter Logan, LPCC-S, RYT 200, (she/her/hers) is a co-owner of Clintonville Counseling and Wellness and currently serves as the Clinical Director. Her primary role is supporting clinicians in doing their best work and helping clients get placed with the best fit. She provides both clinical and work supervision from the heart and believes in the staff's potential to provide outstanding mental health services to the community. Supporting, teaching and learning from others is her passion.

Abbey believes in her clients and their abilities to heal through talk therapy and mindful practices. She has the utmost respect for those who wish to improve their mental health, as this can be a difficult and often uncomfortable process. Her therapeutic style is creative and integrative, applying interpersonal process, feminist, gestalt, EMDR, and IFS. She is trauma-informed and has studied body awareness and movement as it relates to mental health for nearly twenty years and came to the field of mental health feeling that it was all about the body, mind, spirit and the nervous system. Abbey enjoys working with members of the LGBTQ+ community, gender expansive humans, trauma and post-traumatic growth.

Abbey earned a BA in Art and Spanish in 2003 from Capital University and an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Ohio State University in 2009. Abbey trained and worked at The Ohio State University, Office of Student Life, Counseling and Consultation Service as a generalist for 8 years before moving to private practice in 2017. Additionally, she has sought training in expressive arts, creative mindfulness and mind-body approaches such as The Alexander Technique, Nervous System Energy Work, Dancing Mindfulness and EMDR. Abbey became a Registered Yoga Teacher in 2015, after studying at the Samyoga Institute in Columbus, Ohio, with a focus on yoga for mental health.

Kurstie Bevelhymer-Rangel, MSW, LSW (she/her/hers) is a mixed race Indigenous queer Chicana, who is cis, mid-size, and possesses white privilege. She is passionate about providing inclusive and culturally sensitive care to individuals of all backgrounds, with a focus in serving individuals in the LBGTQIA2S+, Latine, and Indigenous communities. Kurstie received her Bachelor of Arts with Research Distinction in Psychology and her Masters in Social Work from The Ohio State University. She began her career as a trauma social worker at Grant Medical Center where she worked with Victims of Crime and patients who were actively in crisis and experiencing mental health and substance use-related issues. As she transitioned out of her role as a trauma social worker, she began working with clients in private practice and developing her specialties and areas of focus/interest. Kurstie has spent the last few years incorporating her own experiences and expanding her research and knowledge base to provide education and training on Latine culture, Indigeneity, and intersections of Queer and Indigenous identities. She continues to enjoy providing education and training on self-care and rest from an anti-capitalist and anti-racist framework and perspective.
