Karen Kissel Wegela, PhD, has been studying, practicing, and teaching the integration of Buddhist teachings and psychotherapy for more than 40 years. She is a professor at Boulder’s Naropa University in the graduate Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology program and served as its director for 15 of those years.
As a therapist, Karen worked in a variety of settings. After 45 years, she retired from private practice. She has presented at numerous workshops and conferences both nationally and internationally and is the author of three books: How to Be a Help Instead of a Nuisance (re-issued as The Courage to Be Present: Buddhism, Psychotherapy and the Awakening of Natural Wisdom), and her most recent, Contemplative Psychotherapy Essentials: Enriching Your Practice with Buddhist Psychology.

In this live, interactive webinar, we will explore the Tibetan Buddhist idea of "bardo" and its application to our work as therapists. Bardo means “intermediate state” or "gap," and we experience it in many different ways, large and small. It might be as large as the emptiness in our lives created by the loss of a loved one, or it might be as small as forgetting why we came into the kitchen.
