Grief and Bereavement in the Present Moment

In this webinar we will explore how grief can present in our communities during the 2020-2021 pandemic. We will discuss current areas of knowledge and suggested coping skills, specifically paying attention to how grief and loss exist in the body and offering methods of working with these responses. We will also explore ways in which grief affects marginalized populations, including members of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. About the speakers

Alexis Rae Burrow LPCC-S (she/her/hers)

Clinician, Clintonville Counseling and Wellness

Alexis Rae Burrow LPCC-S (she/her/hers) graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Community Counseling. Alexis has worked with children, teens, and adults since 2006. She has been employed as a clinician, supervisor, and educator, in community mental health agencies, private practices, and universities. Currently, she is a Clinical Therapist at Clintonville Counseling and Wellness where her focus is on the treatment of trauma through multiple modalities including EMDR, Expressive Arts and Strength-based approaches. Alexis operates as an on site supervisor and EMDR Consultant in Training for clinical professionals and hopes to expand this program in the upcoming years. Her certifications include: Certified EMDR Therapist, EMDR Consultant in Training; Certified Expressive Arts Therapist, Dancing Mindfulness Facilitator, Street Yoga Facilitator. Luca Mendlein, MSW, LISW (they, them, theirs)

Luca Mendlein, MSW, LISW (they/them/theirs) is dedicated to providing evidence-based therapy to individuals of all backgrounds, with a focus in serving survivors of trauma and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Luca received their Bachelor's in Social Work from Ohio University and their Master's in Social Work from the Ohio State University. From Luca's first social work internship at a trans health project to their most recent position as a therapist at a community mental health center, they've developed an integrative framework grounded in strengths-based approaches, including Narrative, Solution-Focused, and Internal Family Systems therapies. Currently, they work as a therapist at Clintonville Counseling and Wellness, where they utilize training and supervision they've received in EMDR, trauma and dissociation, and anti-oppressive practice.
