Frozen in Time: Strengths-Based Therapy for the Aftereffects of Abuse and Trauma
This session begins with a exploration of a framework for understanding the aftereffects of abuse and trauma. Participants are then offered a series of specific processes for helping both adults and young persons to both cope with and heal from trauma. The methods discussed in this session represent recent advances in therapy and treatment including methods to promote well-being (posttraumatic growth) as a means of preventing the relative influence of future traumatic experiences. About the speaker
Bob Bertolino, PhD
I am a professor of Rehabilitation Counseling at Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri, where I have taught since 2001. I teach a variety of courses, primarily graduate, in counseling, health professions, and psychology. I am also Sr. Clinical Advisor at Youth In Need (YIN), Inc., a community-based non-profit organization in eastern Missouri that serves children, youth, and families. I have worked with YIN for 26 years and am part of the Executive Management Team. In my role, I oversee clinical outcomes and provide training, consultation and clinical supervision. I also oversee the development of YIN's state-of-the-art cloud-based outcomes management system (OMS), Imagine.
I am a Sr. Associate for the International Center for Clinical Excellence (ICCE). I was part of a team, led by Dr. Scott D Miller, who helped to gain approval for Feedback-Informed Treatment (FIT) as an evidence-based practice (EBP) through the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). FIT is listed as an EBP on the National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP).
I have taught over 500 workshops throughout the United States and 11 countries. I’ve worked with numerous national, state, and local organizations, and both the United States Army and United States Navy. I have authored or co-authored 14 books on counseling, psychotherapy, and youth care work. My books have been published in 6 languages.
I am a licensed marital and family therapist and professional counselor in the state of Missouri, a National Certified Counselor, a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, a National Board Certified Fellow in Hypnotherapy, and a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
