Rosie is a Postdoctoral Scholar at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with the STRIVE program. She earned a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a specialization in Counselor Education in the spring of 2021, a BA in psychology from Boston University in 2015, a MA in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University’s School of Medicine in 2017, and an MPH in 2020 from The Ohio State University.
She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Ohio and a National Certified Counselor. She also works in private practice, under supervision, in the greater Columbus area with clients around suicide, self-injury, sexual trauma, and eating disorders.
Her research interests include examining sexual health competencies in counselor education and interdisciplinary and integrated approaches to suicide research and prevention. She's presented on these topics and articulated the need for suicide assessment and treatment preparation for professional counselors at the local, state, and national level. Rosie is passionate about elevating the voices of folks with lived experience of suicide. She's consulted with the American Association of Suicidology, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the OSU College of Public Health. She was the 2021 recipient of the Dave Brooks Award through the Ohio Counseling Association.
COCA: Crisis Response Planning for Suicide Prevention Workshop
This full-day training will prepare counselors and mental health professionals of all levels to use crisis response planning for suicide prevention effectively in their practice. The Crisis Response Plan (CRP) is a brief, empirically supported procedure used to reduce an individual's risk for suicidal behavior and is created collaboratively between a suicidal individual and a trained individual and is typically handwritten on an index card for easy, convenient access during times of need. The CRP is comprised of five key sections:
(1) Personal warning signs: personal indicators of an emerging emotional crisis.
(2) Self-management strategies: simple strategies that can be used to help reduce stress or serve as a distraction.
(3) Reasons for living: things that provide a sense of purpose or meaning in life.
(4) Social support: people who provide support or elevate one's mood during tough times (e.g., friends, family members).
(5) Professional crisis support: contact information for health care providers, crisis hotlines, and emergency services.
The CRP usually takes less than 30 minutes to create. During this full-day training, participants will:
