Clients who struggle with chronic mental health symptoms and addictive patterns have a difficult time identifying, tolerating, and regulating their feelings. They often respond to their emotions in a polarized manner which triggers their “fight or flight” response. Consequently, the “fight or flight” response breaks down the feedback loop between mind and body, which over time, will be expressed through psychiatric or medical symptoms and diagnoses. She will explain the difference between healthy and unhealthy feelings and how to identify patterns of suppression and dissociation, providing opportunity for desensitization techniques. She will also discuss the root of all addictive behaviors, and the often co-occurring physical and mental health symptoms. She will provide specific cognitive and experiential exercises and interventions, applicable for any client who is stuck in addictive and self-defeating behaviors.
